Loving Yourself First

When I was younger, I remember being told that I must first love myself if I wanted anyone to love me back.  Of course, I didn't know what that meant back then, but through the last several year, this phrase has taken on a whole new light.  I've realized, through trial & error, that in order to love myself, I must be just that... myself!

It's definitely not easy to be your true self in a world that feels like it's judging your every move.  But through a lot of quiet times by myself & many heartfelt conversations with some of my closest friends, I have found that I really do love the person I have become, no matter what anyone else says or thinks.

And, in turn, by loving myself, I have surrounded myself with people who I feel most comfortable with and who are happy to be around me.  Again, this all seems simple, but without loving yourself first, I believe you won't find others who truly love you back, at least not the real you!

Do you love the person you have become?  Have you found that by loving yourself you attract love & happiness from others?

  1. Totally agree that you have to love yourself before others can love the real you.

I think the trick is to decide not to care what the world's judgment might be. If it feels congruent, I say "go for it!"

  3. I remember when a girl friend was about to go on a first date and she asked me, "What do I do? How should I act?"

    I responded, "Just be yourself."

And she stared at me like I had lost my mind. That really made me sad.

Your blog made that memory spring back to mind. Love yourself. Be yourself. GREAT message.

    1. Thank you for sharing your story. While it might seem simple to some, it's actually hard to realize in some occasions.
